Project overview

Problem

According to NOAA Climate Gov, Human activities emit 9.5 billion metric tons of carbon yearly, often unnoticed. A platform to inform users about their carbon footprint could inspire action to reduce emissions.

Solution

Responsibilities

This platform designed to be user-friendly and customizable, assists users in understanding their climate impact by evaluating carbon emissions.

  • Initiate and plan: Define project vision, break down tasks using PM tools, and collaborate with carbon, UI/UX, and development teams.

  • Execute and monitor: Update progress regularly, adapt plans as needed, and ensure ongoing calculation accuracy.

  • Verify and launch: Conduct final usability checks and ensure the project meets organizational and individual needs before launch.

As a project manager, I oversee the entire process:

Icons to visually represent objects, enhancing the user interface.

Notifications for missing information to prevent human error.

Floating button for quick access to results or to switch to other category.

Sequential filling process to minimize ambiguity.

The Process

Initiating

  • Outline the website's purpose and goals, list all features and requirements

  • Identify key stakeholders and their expectations

  • Break down project goals into manageable task using ASANA

  • Briefed agency on business goals, requirements, and product's role in carbon footprint awareness

  • Tested Excel formula for carbon calculator with R&D team

Research

  • Analyzed competitors' products, user interactions, flows, and content

  • Surveyed 100 diverse individuals on energy consumption habits

  • Collaborated with UI/UX Designer to create user journey based on research

Wireframe & Design

Development & User Acceptance Testing (UAT)

  • Created paper wireframes with UI/UX Designer for optimal user experience

  • Selected design options aligning with brand identity

  • Led internal user acceptance testing

  • Tested desktop and mobile versions, reported bugs
